AGIC
The Australian Green Infrastructure Council (AGIC) are developing a world leading suatainability Rating Scheme for a range of infrastructure projects. The aim of the Rating Scheme is to drive innovation in infrastructure delivery and operation.
The AGIC Rating Scheme is being developed to be a practical tool for project teams to de-mystify sustainability in an infrastructure context and facilitate increased sustainability outcomes on projects. A common third party rating scheme for infrastructure will assist in achieving finance for projects and build confidence in investing by improving the quality of project risk profiles and aligning investment decisions with current sustainable investment guidelines.
Similar to the Green Star tool for buildings, the AGIC Rating Scheme is expected to provide constant market pressure for performance improvement in the area of infrastructure sustainability and this is a stimulus to innovative ideas and new ways of meeting the challenges that arise.
Edge Environment have been charged with developing the Rating Scheme credit for Material Selection and Use and the rating tool credit weighting factors. The credit is developed taking a life cycle assessment approach in the assessment of materials and design options over the life of infrastructure projects. The credits is underpinned by the level playing field LCA methodology developed by BPIC (ie. BP LCI) for the Australian construction sector.

VicRoads
Road traffic and transport authorities in Australian and New Zealand are committed to minimising greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions. To support this commitment, Australian state road authorities and NZ Transport Agency have formed a Transport Authorities Greenhouse Group (TAGG) to share information regarding estimating, reporting and minimising GHG emissions. The TAGG recognises that there needs to be a common approach to estimating the GHG emissions from road projects.
Edge Environment and Parsons Brinckerhoff have been working with TAGG to deliver the “Greenhouse Gas Assessment Workbook for Road Projects”. This Workbook provides road designers, builders, managers and operators a means of consistently estimating GHG emissions at the key stages of construction, operation and maintenance.

BPIC
One of the Building Products Innovation Council's (BPIC’s) goals is to establish a framework for the fair selection of building materials and products.
BPIC is leading the building materials and products industry in providing robust Australian Life Cycle Inventory (LCI) data as part of the AusLCI project. Through a program known as the BPIC ICIP project, BPIC is leading a consortia of the Australian Life Cycle Assessment Society and BRANZ in partnership with the Department of Innovation, Science, Research and Industry with the support and participation of BPIC's major national representative associations.
Edge Environment successfully project managed and contributed between 2007 and 2011 to deliver:
• A consistent "level playing field" methodology for use in building materials and products Life Cycle Assessments (LCA).
• An extensive database of LCI data for building materials and products all compiled in accordance with the methodology.
• A database of replacement lives for materials, products and elements of construction used in Australian buildings.
• A consistent set of 'weightings' for the relative importance of different environmental impacts adapted to the priorities of local stakeholders in different locations and climates.
