AGIC
The Australian Green Infrastructure Council (AGIC) are developing a world leading suatainability Rating Scheme for a range of infrastructure projects. The aim of the Rating Scheme is to drive innovation in infrastructure delivery and operation.
The AGIC Rating Scheme is being developed to be a practical tool for project teams to de-mystify sustainability in an infrastructure context and facilitate increased sustainability outcomes on projects. A common third party rating scheme for infrastructure will assist in achieving finance for projects and build confidence in investing by improving the quality of project risk profiles and aligning investment decisions with current sustainable investment guidelines.
Similar to the Green Star tool for buildings, the AGIC Rating Scheme is expected to provide constant market pressure for performance improvement in the area of infrastructure sustainability and this is a stimulus to innovative ideas and new ways of meeting the challenges that arise.
Edge Environment have been charged with developing the Rating Scheme credit for Material Selection and Use and the rating tool credit weighting factors. The credit is developed taking a life cycle assessment approach in the assessment of materials and design options over the life of infrastructure projects. The credits is underpinned by the level playing field LCA methodology developed by BPIC (ie. BP LCI) for the Australian construction sector.
